VISION

The desire of Descry Bible Center is that you grow as a Christian and a Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can do this by studying the ENGAGEMENT WITH GOD COURSES and sharing them with others as their mentor and leader. The Courses will bring you to meet our Master the Lord Jesus Christ in a personal and profound way. If you take this Mission, you will see the Local Church multiplied through geometrical growth where one disciple trains another to train another. Our purpose is to disciple students according to II Timothy 2:2 (NIV), "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."

However, to guard against any false doctrines that may be brought to Study Class by the students, only teachings covered in our Courses should be discussed. Controversial doctrines should not be discussed, but the Bible should be allowed to speak for itself. The Mentor and Study Leader should get to know his students well and discuss with them any areas of the Courses where they are having difficulty. Regular meeting time and place should be agreed upon, and if a student misses a class they should be given a call. In your Study Group, do not use the springboard method, because it is a casual approach to reading the Bible. It quickly shifts to heated discussion of current issues and conflicts between popular prejudices. Do not hurry, but thoughtfully use your Course Workbook and allow the Bible to speak for itself. Write your answers in your Workbook and come to class ready to discuss applications to the lesson's texts.

Follow these basic rules in your group. 1) The Bible is our textbook and common ground for all that attend. 2) Leave reference works at home. 3) Foster group ownership of the Studies. 4) Keep the group small (2 to 12 persons) so all will participate. 5) Start with prayer and ask for quietness and receptivity to God. 6) Before class, study the Lesson and fill out the Workbook sheet. The class should be spent discussing the questions and personal applications from the Lesson. 7) Watch your time and keep the Study moving so all the questions and applications are covered. 8) If any person can not come to the meeting, they should mail their Question Answer Sheet to the Study Leader.

It is obvious from the above that a Mentor or Study Leader must serve with integrity. Much prayer and even periods of fasting should be given to asking God for wisdom, motivation, and honesty in your work so that you will always depend upon the Lord for help. Let us give thanks to the Lord for the infinitely precious Bible Scriptures that bestow so much blessing. MAY GOD BE PRAISED! Amen.
